A Night with Andersen at the Central Library
A report from the event "A Night with Andersen" at SCI Central Library.
During March and April, you have a unique opportunity not only to study texts but also to contemplate an exhibition of illustrations. The exhibition With Joy presents an extraordinary collection of portraits of prominent Czechs of global significance and Czech travelers created by Jiří Fixl. The exhibition also includes several illustrations from the author's fairy tale books.
Jiří Fixl (born April 18, 1950 in Prague) is a Czech painter, graphic artist, and illustrator. He studied at the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Prague (1965-1969) and subsequently at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design under professors Zdeněk Sklenář, Evžen Weidlich, and Rostislav Vaněk (1970-1976). He also gained experience at Jiří Trnka's Studio, where he acquired valuable skills in animation and illustration.
His impressive body of work includes illustrations for approximately 130 titles, ranging from board books and textbooks to fiction, fairy tales, and educational books, including several of his own authorship. Since 2010, he has operated his own Studio efef, where he focuses on producing original printed materials and books.
Fixl regularly conducts author discussions and creative workshops for libraries and schools throughout the Czech Republic and Moravia. He is also a dedicated participant in the "Night with Andersen" project, for which he painted a portrait of Hans Christian Andersen in 2010.
